Critique on Article appearing in Scientific American

This article, Probing the Geodynamo appeared in Scientific American Volume 292 Number 4 of April 2005. A request was sent by E-mail on March 20, 2005 to comment and to make corrections on the article and I am still waiting for a reply. Apparently E-mail is too slow.

The comment that I can make is one that I have made before and is concerning the premise for that theory, the dynamo theory. The Dynamo theory uses the homopolar dynamo or the double-disk dynamo as its premise for their theory (Geomagnetism, Origin by Paul H. Roberts, University of California , Los Angeles ) which is in error or putting it another way for those familiar with computer programming is “garbage in, garbage out”.  The premise for the Geomotor theory is that the heat of the interior of the earth causes ionization and separation of charges. When these positive and negative charges are multiplied quadrillions of times they produce two magnetic fields due to the earth’s rotation. These fields add vectorially to produce either a normal or reverse field depending on which field predominates at that instant in geological time.

In the same article and on the section “Driving the Dynamo” The first condition for the earth’s heat is in error because the source of the heat is due to the force imposed on the solid core by the interaction of components of earth’s rotation, magnetic field and induced force being mutually perpendicular to each other[1].   Likewise the second condition is also in error because the source of heat in the liquid core is due to action of the solid core and heat derived from the solid core. I will agree with his third reason.

The polarity of the liquid and solid core is the same as the crust of the earth. See part 3 in “Global Warming and Cooling” located on my web site, www.earthsgeomotor.com . For the normal field as at present, a north seeking compass needle located either in the liquid core or the solid core would be pointing to the south magnetic pole of the earth which is located at the north geographic pole. This is true for about 99.9% of either, the 0.1% is reserved for the lines of force which will be pointed toward the south geographic pole where the north magnetic pole is located. This is definitely not the way the dynamo theory is presented; however, this is the way it has to be in order to have a difference in heat production by forces induced on the solid core. This heat production is indicative of global warming and when the magnetic field reverses then also the induced force on the solid core reverses which will account for global cooling. If the dynamo theory about the inner core were true then there would be no heating and cooling of the earth as has been happening throughout geological time.

In conclusion I did like the admission in the last sentence which is: “***, we will learn whether our current ideas about the magnetic field and its reversals are on the right track.”

Magnetic reversals of the earth’s magnetic field is described and shown on page entitled “My Claims” on both web sites: www.earthsgeomotor.com and www.earths-magnetic-field-and-how-it-reverses-and-more.com .
